Digital Desk: We are thrilled to share the achievements of three talented skaters from Assam, who represented Assam as part of Team India at the International Skating Championship 2026 held in Jakarta, Indonesia, from May 29 to May 31.
In the under-11 boys Standard Inline skate category, Navhyam Nihan Borah from Guwahati shone brightly, as he had secured a silver medal in the 400-metre rink race, clinching his individual title.
He also participated in other races where he reached the finals in the 300-metre race. He played final in 300-metre but missed a place by just couple of seconds. He also competed in the 500-metre race, played heats till semi-finals but missed his chance for the final by a narrow margin.
Additionally, he participated in 1800-metre team Relay with two other Indian skaters from different states and their team completed in 5th place.
Another young skater Rudra Sharma from Guwahati, participated in the under-11 boy Standard inline category, earned a bronze medal in the 400-metre race, bringing another medal and pride for us.
Rudra also participated in the 500-metre and 1000-metre events including team relay, but remained unfortunate as he missed in initial qualification heats by narrow margins.
On the other hand, Riyan Patra participated in the junior category quads category (under 16 yr boys). Riyan competed in individual races of 1000-metre and 500-metre track but remained unfortunate to reach a place by narrow margins.
However, he brought big achievement in the 1200-metre Team relay as Riyan and two other skaters secured gold medals in this team relay event, bringing pride for the team India.
These skaters not only brought pride to Assam but also gained valuable experience competing against skaters from countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, etc. Beyond medals, they gained exposure to international competition and further elevated their skills.
These three skaters got selected for this international championship during their national championship held in January this year due to their outstanding performances.
With very less amenities and limited technical support, these skaters shown their capabilities. If better infrastructure and support is received, we will see great future for these skaters.
We congratulate them on their hard work and success, and we look forward to many more accomplishments in the future!
