Digital Desk: As devastating floods continue to displace families across Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat and neighbouring districts, a young Assamese entrepreneur has launched "Axom Baan-Xohay Xetu."
This free, community-driven digital platform serves as a vital bridge, connecting flood-affected families with volunteers, relief organisations, and individual donors through a single, transparent interface.
Accessible at www.axombaanxohayxetu.in, this platform intends to act as a meaningful coordination layer, bringing together scattered requests for help, relief efforts, and community support in one place.
It is not designed to facilitate rescues, raise funds, or replace official emergency machinery. Instead, it focuses on a specific vital role.
Axom Baan Xohay Xetu operates as a single, public, verified board comprising four key components:
1. Request Submission: Affected households or an informer can post specific needs, urgency levels, and location data, including photographs. To ensure security and privacy, the public board shows an approximate area, while precise coordinates are shared exclusively with the specific relief group that accepts the request.
2. Verified Support Groups: NGOs, youth organisations, rescue teams and individual volunteers register, get verified by a coordinator, and commit to requests they can actually attend to. On pick-up, they receive the family's direct contact and precise location.
3. Support Delivery: Comprehensive aid including rescue, rations, shelter, cash, cleaning, rebuilding- is provided exactly as requested.
4. Recipient-led Closure: Only the affected family or the informer can close a request. A relief effort is not recorded as based on a volunteer's report, but only when the recipients themselves confirm delivery. This fundamental constraint transforms a simple wishlist into a transparent, verifiable audit trail.
The platform maintains a strictly hands-off approach to financial transactions. All funds move directly from donor to recipient via UPI or bank transfer, ensuring that the platform never holds, routes, or takes a commission from any donation.
To ensure security and privacy, payment details are hidden from the public view and are only disclosed after a coordinator has manually verified the recipient's identity documents.
Additionally, the platform also points donors to the official Chief Minister's Relief Fund website for contributions.
The people behind the initiative:
Axom Baan Xohay Xetu was conceived and developed by Pritam Ranjan Deka, a young Assamese entrepreneur and former Zoho employee.
Driven by the urgent need to address the impact of devastating floods, Pritam utilised AI-assisted development tools to rapidly transition the platform from a concept to a live resource in record time.
As Assam continues to face the brunt of severe flooding, the platform extends an open invitation to NGOs, youth organisations, rescue teams, volunteer groups, donors and citizens across Assam and the wider Assamese community.
The platform encourages all stakeholders to register, utilise the platform's features, and contribute to its ongoing improvement.
Axom Baan Xohay Xetu is a citizen-led, supplementary initiative. While it operates without official affiliation or endorsement, it is designed to work in harmony with the Government of Assam, district administrations, ASDMA, SDRF, NDRF, and many dedicated organisations and volunteers tirelessly serving on the front lines.
