Pabhojan Gold Tea sold for Rs. 1 lakh per kg at the Jorhat Tea Auction Center in June, outbidding this high price by a rupee.

Digital Desk: A specialty tea from Assam's Dibrugarh district was sold for Rs 1.15 lakh per kg at a private auction on Friday, the proprietor of the tea estate said.

"Manohari Gold Tea" fetched the sum at an auction on the exclusive website Tea Inntech, according to Rajan Lohia of Manohari Tea Estate.

We had to sell this batch through a private auction this year because the Tea Board India's cap of Rs 1 lakh per kg at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) prevented us from doing so, Lohia said.

He added that this was the highest auction price for tea to date at such auctions.

According to him, RK Tea Sales purchased one kilogramme of the premium tea. Over the years, tea from the Manohari brand, particularly the gold kind, has fetched high prices at the GTAC, breaking previous records in the process.

AFT Techno Trade's "Golden Pearl," which also went up for auction at the same auction house in February of this year, matching the price at which Manohari Gold from December of last year sold through GTAC—Rs 99,999 per kilogramme.
