Digital Desk: The Assam government will spend at least Rs 3,000 crore in the state's 1,000 km-long economic corridor project in the state, officials stated on Tuesday.

The cabinet has given its preliminary permission to the large-scale "Asom Mala" plan project.

An additional budget of Rs. 950 crore was also approved for improving rural infrastructure, stated Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah in a cabinet meeting.

"The funding would come from NABARD. With the help of the loan, the Public Works Department would upgrade 90 rural roads and four rural bridges," he informed reporters.

Additionally, it decided that the cabinet meeting in January of the next year would be held in Nagaon and that the sessions in November and December would be held in the districts of Tinsukia and North Lakhimpur, respectively.

The Minister claims that the deputy commissioners have been told to limit the cost of cabinet meetings to a maximum of Rs 5 lakhs and to stop making any more repairs to circuit homes and inspection bungalows for the same reason.

The cabinet also accepted the revised draft notification declaring the Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary in Tinsukia as an eco-sensitive zone, in compliance with an order from the Supreme Court.

The cabinet also approved the allotment of land for the construction of a judicial guest house in Kaziranga National Park for state tourists and guests of the Gauhati High Court.
