Digital Desk: Assam Tourism has paired up with Pawan Hans Limited (PHL) to introduce helicopter services on six routes in four sectors of the state, expanding air connectivity in the region.

On Wednesday, Assam Tourism Development Corporation and Pawan Hans Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Guwahati.

Under the UDAN scheme, the PHL has been allotted 86 routes to operate RCS flights in six states. The services will be available three days a week.

In the initial phase, the service will be available in Assam on the 'Dibrugarh-Jorhat-Tezpur-Guwahati-Tezpur-Jorhat-Dibrugarh' route.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation's RCS UDAN is providing special emphasis on providing air connectivity to distant areas of the northeastern states that lack significant rail and road connectivity.

According to the Ministry, the operationalization of these routes will make travel easier for people of the region and will stimulate trade and tourism.
