Digital Desk: A tragic accident on National Highway 8 near the Berajal area of Karimganj's Auction Market (Nilam Bazar) claimed the lives of six individuals, including three women and a child. The collision involved a four-wheeler (registration number AS 11S 8323) and an auto rickshaw (registration number AS 01 BC 201), causing the auto rickshaw to veer off the road and into a ditch.

Four of the victims succumbed to their injuries immediately at the accident site. The remaining passengers were rushed to Karimganj Civil Hospital in critical condition. Initially, only Ruhul Alom, the auto rickshaw driver from Chandkhira in Patharkandi, was identified. Another victim, Jakir Hussain, was transferred to Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) for further medical care.

Following the incident, enraged locals staged a protest by blocking National Highway 8. District Commissioner Mridul Kumar Yadav intervened, resulting in the lifting of the blockade and the resumption of traffic on the busy highway.
