Digital Desk: The District Transport Officer (DTO) of Assam's Charaideo district was detained on Saturday under suspicion of fraud.

The DTO has been identified as Rajib Chandra Bordoloi. He was suspended last year for approving fake licenses in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

The CID has opened a case with case number 07/2023 under Sections 120 B/420/467/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the fraudulent issuance of replacement licenses in response to the complaint made by the Assam Transport Department.

According to a news release, the CID team visited the DTO office in Charaideo and gathered evidence, including documents. From the Assam Transport Commissioner's office in Guwahati, documentation has also been gathered.

"Based on the evidence collected Shri Rajib Ch Bordoloi, Enforcement Inspector, and the then I/C District Transport officer Charaideo have been found well established in the fraudulent practice of issuing replacement licenses," it continued.

Bordoloi was detained earlier today and appeared before a lower court after being produced. The press announcement indicated that he had been remanded in jail by the police for five days in order to undergo additional questioning.
