Tezpur: Renowned Assamese actress Chetana Das, affectionately known as the 'Comedy Queen of Assam,' was recently bestowed with the esteemed Ban Theatre Award, the highest accolade from the historic 120-year-old Ban Theatre. The honour acknowledges her profound and enduring impact on Assamese theatre and cinema.
The felicitation ceremony was held at the Tezpur District Library Auditorium as part of a special tribute and remembrance programme organised by Ban Theatre. The event also marked the 56th death anniversary of the legendary Natasurya Phani Sarma, adding a layer of historical significance to the proceedings.
Upon accepting the award, Das expressed deep gratitude, crediting Ban Theatre for laying the fundamental groundwork of her acting career and profoundly shaping her artistic journey. She emotionally referred to the people of Tezpur as her extended family, seeking their blessings as she prepares to receive the national Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from the Government of India, further cementing her stature in the performing arts.
The programme saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava, Sonitpur District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, members of Ban Theatre, and other eminent citizens. The event, conducted by Ban Theatre Secretary Pankaj Baruah, commenced with a welcome address delivered by General Secretary Jitumoni Dev, highlighting the rich legacy of the institution and the contributions of its artistes.
