  • A socio-cultural and literary organisation in Dibrugarh, Doy-Kao-Rang, transformed its planned grand book launch into a symbolic event, providing financial assistance to flood-affected families in Upper Assam

Amidst the ongoing devastating floods impacting vast swathes of Upper Assam, a Dibrugarh-based socio-cultural and literary organisation, Doy-Kao-Rang, has demonstrated a commendable act of community responsibility. The group opted to cancel its previously scheduled elaborate book release programme, instead conducting a modest, symbolic launch for 14 children’s novels and extending crucial financial aid to flood victims.

The organisation held the simplified ceremony recently at the Doy-Kao-Rang Street Library in Nagakhelia, Dibrugarh. This decision underscored a pivot from celebration to social service, acknowledging the severe hardships faced by numerous families across the region. The event saw the symbolic release of 14 new children’s novels, penned by 13 different authors, showcasing a rich tapestry of local literary talent aimed at young readers.

Among the notable titles launched were "In Search of the Mystery of the Sanchipat Manu" by Iman Bezbaruah, "Fly High, Little Butterfly" by Kalchum Bibi, "Aman’s Journey Across Assam" by Quilin Kakoti, and "Beautiful Gohpur: Rich in Beauty and Heritage" by Minakshi Bora. This collection of works aims to engage young minds while promoting local narratives and culture.

Doy-Kao-Rang’s initiative serves as a powerful example of how cultural bodies can integrate social responsibility into their core activities, especially during times of crisis. By prioritising the immediate needs of the community over a celebratory event, the organisation has set a high standard for civic engagement and compassion in the face of natural calamity, providing a ray of hope to those grappling with the aftermath of the floods.
