Guwahati: Assam's duo Debahuti Lahon and Maini Boruah won the 3rd Edition of Red Bull SHuttle Up 2021 on Tuesday. The duo Lahon and Boruah hails from Guwahati, Assam.

Debahuti Lahon and Maini Boruah defeated Delhi's city winners, Sana Verma and Ekta Joshi, 11-8, 11-10, in straight sets in the finals.

They performed excellently in India's first-ever exclusive women's doubles tournament at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in Delhi.

The winning pair from Guwahati, Debahuti and Maini has made individual recognition to their name. 

Maini Boruah was a part of the team that won bronze at the Senior National Badminton Championship in 2019. In the North East Zonals Championship in 2019, she was U-19 doubles champion and mixed doubles, silver medalist.

At the same time, Debahuti Lahon was a school national champion. She was additionally third-ranked in all India doubles ranking in 2019.

Red Bull Shuttle up Qualifiers was carried out across 5 cities, including Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai and Guwahati. The competition started from 18th September to 30th October 2021. The leading pairs from each qualifier to face at the national finals.

"We are overwhelmed to win the Red Bull Shuttle Up National Finals. We planned well for this competition. It is always a fabulous experience to play against the best teams in the nation and do great. It is exceptional to see brands like Red Bull backing aspiring women badminton athletes like us and providing us with the platform to showcase our capabilities," said the duo. 

The Red Bull Shuttle Up competition is an exclusive women's doubles event for women above 16 years of age. All events are played on a knockout basis, with 3 sets in each game.
