Digital Desk: A misfortune for the news world. Pratap Bordoloi, Assam's first newsreader on television, breathed his last yesterday. Pratap Bordoloi, a well-known journalist, died on Friday at 10.35 p.m. at his home in Guwahati. Pratap Bordoloi, who died at the age of 72, leaves behind his wife, son and two daughters. The journalist will be cremated at 12 noon today at Navagraha crematorium.  Pratap Bordoloi was the first newsreader at the Guwahtai Doordarshan Kendra. After retiring from Guwahati Doordarshan Kendra, Bordoloi was also the editor-in-chief of a news channel in Assam.  Also Read: Reports: Two blasts reported at gas pipeline in Luhansk, East Ukraine Bordoloi, who was born on April 1, 1949, was a pioneer figure in the state's media and journalism. He worked as a newsreader for Doordarshan News. He also worked for All India Radio's Guwahati branch, where he ascended to the position of Deputy Director. Bordoloi was Doordarshan Guwahati's first Assamese News Reader. He was also the first individual to offer his voice to the Guwahati Planetarium's dubbing. The late journalist's death has now placed a pall over the state's media landscape. Many admirers paid their condolences to the journalist, who died at the Residence in Jonali, Guwahati. Assam's Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma conveyed his condolences to the family members and expressed his deep grief over the demise of the eminent journalist.
