The family has alleged that trouble began when there was a delay in making payments at the counter
Digital Desk: On 29th April, an incident has come to light at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati, where a patient and his family members were allegedly assaulted by staff at the CN Centre.
As per reports, a patient identified as Pankaj Biswas was referred from Diphu Medical College and Hospital to GMCH for advanced treatment. He was brought to the hospital late at night in a critical condition and admitted to the CN Centre, where doctors prescribed several medical tests.
The family has alleged that trouble began when there was a delay in making payments at the counter. Hospital staff reportedly behaved rudely, and one doctor is also accused of misconduct.
The situation escalated when two trolley pullers, identified as Hirak Das and Rahul Ali, allegedly assaulted the patient’s relatives and smashed a mobile phone belonging to one of them.
The family, which hails from Lanka, has further alleged that instead of providing assistance, they were threatened and told not to come to GMCH if they did not have sufficient money for treatment.
Distressed by the incident, the family rushed to Bhangagarh Police Station late at night, even as the critically ill patient remained in a vulnerable condition. They lodged a formal complaint against the doctor and staff involved.
After being informed by the media, the GMCH Superintendent directed the Deputy Superintendent to take immediate action. Following this, the Deputy Superintendent reached the police station and arranged for the patient to be shifted back to the CN Centre with the help of an ambulance for continued treatment.
Based on the complaint, police have detained the two accused trolley pullers, Hirak Das and Rahul Ali, and further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
