Guwahati: A bad news for all the alcohol lovers in the city. The Assam government has decided to increase the liquor price by 15 per cent from December 10.

Reportedly, the action was taken to increase the excise duty, to compensate Value-added tax (VAT) reduction price on petrol and diesel.

However, the government has not imposed VAT on wine and beer.

Already the Assam government has issued a notice to increase the price of the liquor in the city.

Notably, the state has 1,234 liquor and wine shops, with 318 in Guwahati. Moreover, the number of bars in the state is 996.
