Digital Desk: Bangladesh’s national power transmission grid failed on Tuesday afternoon, causing a nationwide blackout and leaving millions of people in the dark.

The Dhaka Tribune reported that the grid failure at 2:00 p.m. local time, which only affected the northern regions of the country, was the source of the widespread blackout.

According to representatives from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh, the transmission line tripped somewhere in the country's eastern region, particularly in regions east of the Jamuna river (PGCB).

The state minister for the ICT Division of Bangladesh, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, predicted that the power supply will be fully restored by 8 p.m.

A national power grid failure might cause telecommunication services to be disrupted in some areas of Bangladesh, according to the national trade group for the country that represents all mobile telecom carriers.

"Telecommunication services may be interrupted in some areas of the nation due to a failure of the national power system. We apologise for the trouble, according to a statement from AMTOB.

According to Dhaka Tribune, Bangladesh State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid informed United News Bangladesh that the power supply should be entirely restored by 7 o'clock.

He claimed, "We have already brought back electricity supplies in Bangabhaban and Ganabhaban, as well as several locations in Mirpur.

It may be mentioned that a comparable grid failure occurred in 32 districts back in May 2017.
