Digital Desk: Banks will be shut down in India for 11 days including all four Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays in May 2023. Rabindranath Tagore's birthday, Buddha Purnima, Maharashtra Day/May Day, and Maharana Pratap Jayanti are among the celebrations that will take place in May 2023. 

Customers are urged to plan ahead for their banking tasks as bank holidays do not apply uniformly throughout states and union territories due to the distinction between national public holidays and state-specific holidays.

Bank holidays in 2023

On May 1, all banks will be closed in the following states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, and Goa. In observance of Buddha Purnima, banks will be closed on May 5 in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu, Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tripura, Mizoram, and Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Banks will remain closed in select states on May 9, May 16, and May 22.
