Digital Desk: Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk, the king of Bhutan, landed in Guwahati today as part of a week-long state visit to India. Arriving at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, King Wangchuk was escorted by senior Bhutanese government officials and members of his family.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed King Wangchuk at the airport, accompanied by Ministers Ranoj Pegu and Ranjit Kumar Dass, as well as other government officials and dignitaries.
The Royal Monarch king accompanied by his wife Queen Pema Jetsun, and their two sons went to visit the Kamakhya Temple after landing in Guwahati.
The Bhutanese king and his entourage will be hosted at a special dinner at the Raj Bhawan by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria. Apart from this, the Bhutanese king will receive a courtesy call from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma later today at the Radisson Blu Hotel, where he will be staying while in Assam.
King Wangchuk will meet with senior Central government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, during his week-long visit. On November 10, the Bhutanese king's week-long state visit will conclude.
During the week-long state visit, the Bhutanese entourage will visit Maharashtra in addition to Assam. To guarantee the Bhutanese king's visit goes smoothly during his stay in Assam, the government has put a lot of effort into making arrangements. Guwahati has implemented traffic restrictions in anticipation of the visit.
