Digital Desk: Mayawati, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief, has appointed her nephew Akash Anand as her political successor.

The party's national coordinator is Akash Anand, who was a major face during Mayawati's Lok Sabha election campaign in 2019.

The experienced leader made the statement today at a critical party meeting attended by party office bearers.

Mayawati, a staunch opponent of dynastic politics, named her brother Anand Kumar as the party's national vice president in 2019 and her nephew Akash as a national coordinator.

Akash, 28, entered politics in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He was shown with Mayawati and other key BSP leaders in various images.

Previously, Akash Anand was seen at several BSP rallies and accompanied Mayawati on the 2017 Uttar Pradesh state election campaign.

According to BSP leader Udayveer Singh, Anand has been assigned to strengthen the party's organisation across the country. Singh added, "She (Mayawati) said he (Anand) will be her heir after her."

The news comes a day after Lok Sabha MP Danish Ali was suspended from the BSP after being the target of an unsavoury exchange on the floor of the legislature.
