Remaining firm on his stance, CM Sarma said that everyone should support cultural exchange and consider it as a step toward unity.

Digital Desk: Amid the controversy surrounding the celebration of Bihar Diwas in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma defended the event and said there should be no opposition to the proposed celebration in the Tinsukia district of Upper Assam. He mentioned that Assam Day is celebrated across various states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Reacting to the criticism over the Bihar Diwas celebration, CM Sarma said that if Assam Day was celebrated in Bihar then Bihar Day could also be celebrated in Assam.

He added that such controversies are unnecessary and discourage investment in Assam. So, people should focus on economic growth and cultural harmony rather than creating controversies.

Remaining firm on his stance, CM Sarma said that everyone should support cultural exchange and consider it as a step toward unity.

Several political parties and organisations have been protesting against the celebration of Bihar's foundation in Assam.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent), led by Paresh Baruah has also issued a warning to the Assam government and Hindi speakers against celebrating Bihar Diwas in Assam. ULFA(I) spokesperson Ishan Asom warned of "serious consequences" if the government allows the celebration of the event, calling it "an attack on the culture and pride of Indigenous people".
