The Biswanath district administration on Thursday extended vital financial assistance to the bereaved families of two individuals who tragically lost their lives due to drowning in floodwaters under the Naduar Revenue Circle. A cheque of Rs 4 lakh each was handed over to the next of kin, offering a measure of support during their profound loss.
The victims were identified as 75-year-old Khem Saikia from Magurmara village and 40-year-old Dinesh Bhumij, a resident of Bejorhola village. Both individuals drowned on Wednesday after entering areas submerged by the recent deluge. Reports indicate that Mr. Bhumij tragically ventured into a paddy field inundated by the floodwaters of the Dikorai river, leading to his demise.
Following the unfortunate incidents, Biswanath MLA Pallab Lochan Das, accompanied by District Commissioner Karabi Saikia Karan, visited Bejorhola village. During their visit, they meticulously inspected the areas where floodwater has accumulated, a situation attributed to inadequate drainage systems and insufficient outlet capacity for water discharge.
MLA Das assured the affected residents that the administration would take appropriate and timely measures to improve the existing drainage infrastructure and mitigate the recurring problem of waterlogging in the locality, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
