Digital Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced new state presidents for Delhi, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Bihar on Thursday.
While CP Joshi replaces Satish Poonia in Rajasthan, which will go to polls later this year, in Delhi Virendra Sachdeva will lead the state team.
Former minister in the Odisha government, Manmohan Samal will be the new state unit president in Odisha, where the BJP is seeking to expand its footprint, while in Bihar Sanjay Jaiswal has been replaced by Samrat Chaudhary.
In Rajasthan, there were reports of conflict among state team leaders, and the central leadership was asked to replace Poonia, a Jat leader and RSS man.
According to a party functionary, there were differences between Poonia and previous chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
The party recently appointed Gulab Chand Kataria as the governor of Assam, which was seen as a boost for Raje supporters who have been pushing for her to be named as the chief ministerial candidate even though the central leadership has said the election will be fought with the PM as the face, according to a party functionary.
With the appointment of Chaudhary, a Kurmi leader, the party hopes to expand its influence among Bihar's OBC communities.
After breaking with the JD(U), the BJP is trying to gain an edge in the state by appealing to the OBCs, MBCs, and Dalits.
In Odisha, there was also a call to replace President Samir Mohanty.
