Mumbai: A day after Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was cemented at the Shivaji park on Monday, BJP MLA Ram Kadam sought her memorial at the site. Notably, the proposal takes on added weight as at the same park, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray was cremated in 2012. Despite objections from civic groups, his memorial was built on the location. Mangeshkar (92) died of multi-organ failure in a hospital on Sunday morning. In the evening, she was cremated with full state honours in Shivaji Park, Mumbai. “On behalf of Mangeshkar’s billions of followers and music lovers, I sincerely request you to create a memorial at the same site at Shivaji Park where she was cremated.” the BJP MLA wrote in a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. When asked about the demand, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, whose party leads Maharashtra’s coalition government and controls the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, told reporters that the country has to think about a memorial of a legendry singer like Lata Mangeshkar. “Mangeshkar ji was a lovely soul, and we are fortunate that she was born in this nation and had a strong connection to Maharashtra. Some individuals want her memorial to be built on the same spot where she was cremated. It is not simple to construct her memorial.” Raut said. “She wasn’t a politician to build a memorial. It isn’t easy to construct her memorial because she was a big personality. The country must consider about constructing her memorial.” said Shiv Sena’s chief spokesperson. Raut, while speaking to the reporter’s claims that Mangeshkar called him last month and talked about former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and expressed her appreciation for the Sena leader’s views on Vajpayee.
