Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced the candidate’s names for the upcoming bye-elections to the Legislative Assembly of Assam to be held on October 30.

Former AIUDF MLA Phani Talukdar who shifted to BJP last month, will field from Bhabanipur constituency of Kokrajhar district, while Sushanta Borgohain, who quits Congress to join BJP will fight from the Thowra constituency in Jorhat. In the Mariani constituency, four-time MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi will field from Jorhat.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) notified that the last date of filing the nomination paper is October 8, while the date of scrutiny is October 11. The date for the withdrawal of candidature is October 13. Moreover, the counting is on November 2, 2021.

Already, ECI has enforced the model code of conduct in these districts.
