Srinagar: After several protests being made by the family members of the two businessmen killed in a gunfight in Srinagar's anti-terrorist operation, the bodies were finally handed over to the families for proper burial.

Emotional scenes were witnessed at the house of the two civilians. The bodies of Muhammad Altaf Bhat and Mudasir Gul were handed over to the families around 1 am.

Muhammad Altaf Bhat, a resident of Barzulla who was a businessman. On the other hand, Mudasir Gul, resident of Budgam who ran an office in the same building where Bhat had a shop.

The police authorities claimed that three of them were killed along with a militant named Haidar.

As per sources, the two bodies of Gul and Bhat were exhumed on Thursday evening from the Handwara graveyard.

"Two bodies have been exhumed and sent to Srinagar under police protection. The bodies will be handed over to the families, and they will bury them before dawn," stated an official.

After the alleged gunfight, the families denied the police claim that the trio had any association with militancy. The families continuously protested against the claims and demanded that the bodies be handed over to them.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has asked for a magisterial inquiry into the killings. Many political leaders, including two former chief ministers, opposed the killings and directed the return of bodies to the family members earlier.
