Bongaigaon Police have made significant arrests in the ongoing investigation into the alleged molestation of students at a private residential girls' madrassa in the district. Three individuals, including the prime accused and two trustee members who also served as teachers, have been apprehended in connection with the deeply disturbing allegations.
The prime accused, identified as Aminul Islam, was taken into custody from Dumuria on Friday. Subsequently, police also arrested Abdul Jabbar and Hajrat Ali, both of whom were trustee members and teachers at the institution, from Tinkunia and Piradhora respectively. Officials confirmed that a case, bearing No. 109/2026, has been formally registered at Jogighopa Police Station against all four accused persons involved in the incident.
These arrests come days after the Ishaatul Uloom Madrassatul Banat, a privately run residential girls' madrassa located at Malegarh in the Jogighopa area, was sealed by the administration. The action followed a wave of protests by guardians and local residents who were outraged by reports of students being allegedly molested by a teacher. The initial allegations had prompted guardians to file complaints with Jogighopa Police, leading to a tense situation where agitated residents and guardians reportedly vandalised parts of the madrassa premises before police intervened to restore order.
The investigation is ongoing, as authorities work to ensure justice for the alleged victims and address the serious concerns raised by the community regarding the safety and well-being of students in such institutions.
