Digital Desk : The seniors, frontline and healthcare workers will be administered ‘booster doses' of Covid-19 today. The precaution of the booster doses can only be taken after nine months of the date of administration of the second dose of the vaccine.

As per the health ministry, the booster doses are equivalent to the first and second doses taken by the people previously. There will be no mix and match, the Centre reiterated.

It is also informed that the senior citizens with co-morbidities will not be required to produce a doctor’s certificate or prescription at the time of administration of the precaution dose.

Meanwhile, children of age-group between 15-18 years are being administered the ‘emergency precautionary dose’ so as to contain the spread of the Covid infection in the country.

The booster doses for the seniors, frontline and health workers will be administered between 9 am and 4.30 pm and beneficiaries will have to carry the same identity proof they presented during the first dose of their vaccination – aadhaar card – as well as their vaccination certificate/card and phone number based on which verification will be carried out on the portal.

According to a data released by the health ministry, already 60 percent of the beneficiaries of the age group 15-18 years have been administered the “precautionary doses.”  Although the department hoped to have all the teenagers in his group vaccinated before the administration of booster doses began, it hasn’t been able to do so.
