Digital Desk: The mighty Brahmaputra (Borluit) river stretches through 2,900 km emerging from the Himalayas. It flows through Southern West China, Northeast India, and Bangladesh. In recent times it has been reported that the river is abnormally starting to dry up.
The Jorhat to Majuli ferry services that operate from Nimati Ghat to Kamalabari Ghat respectively, have been put to a halt, cutting the ferry services for passengers. The daily goers are in distress due to the disruption in travel, especially during this time of the year when the auspicious Raas festival is observed with much anticipation.
The decreasing water levels result in ferry delays and people now have to travel to Aphalamukh Ghat as an alternative to Kamalabari. Allegedly it is said that the reason behind this drop is connected with China's 60,000 MW hydropower project, which has disrupted the natural flow of the river.
The overall situation is creating havoc among visitors and daily passengers of Majuli.
