Kokrajhar: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro handed over an appointment letter to one family member of the suspected ULB militants who were allegedly killed in an encounter in Western Assam’s Kokrajhar on September 18.

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) CEM Pramod Boro handed over the appointment letter to Sanjib Kumar Brahma, brother of late Janak Brahma. BTR chief Pramod Boro said that the appointment letter was handed over to the brother of Janak Brahma on compensatory grounds.

Sources stated that the kin of Jwngsar Mushahary, who was too killed in the alleged fake encounter, will receive the letter after a few days.

Boro said the government is exerting significant measures for the well-being of the family members of the two deceased persons. He said that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already ordered a commissioner-level inquiry into the incident, and those found liable will be punished as per the law.

Meantime, the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and All Assam Tribal Sangha staged a protest in Kokrajhar asking for justice and a legal inquiry into the alleged fake encounter.

A large number of students from various institutions and locals participated in the protest at Bodofa Children Park in Kokrajhar. A memorandum was presented to the chief minister through the Kokrajhar DC.

Participating in the protest, All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) president Dipen Boro said such fraudulent encounters would not be tolerated, and guilty individuals must be punished.
