The CBI recovered Rs 20 crore in cash during its searches on Tuesday; on Wednesday, that amount had increased to well than Rs 38 crore, according to a CBI Spokesperson. 

Digital Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained Rajinder Kumar Gupta and his son Gaurav a day after conducting searches on the property of the former (CMD) of WAPCOS. The total amount recovered by the central agency increased to Rs 38 crore on Wednesday, according to officials, from Rs 20 crore on Tuesday.

It ranks among the agency's largest cash seizures. WAPCOS is a central public sector company that the government owns wholly. The Ministry of Jal Shakti has administrative jurisdiction over it. Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited was its previous name. In charge of the company from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2019, Gupta served for eight years.



The central agency began searching for Gupta, his wife Reema Singal, son Gaurav Singal, and daughter-in-law Komal Singal on Tuesday after charging them for allegedly accumulating illegal money while working for the company. Following the filing of the FIR, CBI teams conducted a coordinated search operation across 19 sites in Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonipat, and Ghaziabad, finding the staggering amount.

The representative added that in addition to the cash, a sizable amount of jewellery, valuable items, and property documents were seized as well.

The person claimed that the former bureaucrat and his family had also established a private consulting business in Delhi after his retirement from service. Across Delhi, Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonipat, and Chandigarh, he claimed, the accused's alleged immovable properties include apartments, commercial properties, and farms.
