Guwahati: To enhance the capacity of Digboi Refinery, the central government has decided to increase the existing Duliajan-Digboi crude pipeline capacity from 0.65 Million metric ton per annum (MMTPA) to 1 MMTPA.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri for the initiative. He also thanked Minister Rameshwar Teli.

Sarma tweeted, “I am so happy to have received this letter from Hon Union Min Sri @HardeepSPuri intimating about action on capacity expansion of Digboi Refinery. Grateful to him & Sri@Rameswar_Teli.Assam bows in gratitude to Hon PM Sri @narendramodifor for his generous margdarshan and support.”

Notably, the decision comes after Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the capacity expansion of Digboi Refinery on September 23, 2021.

According to the official report, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has already initiated the expansion of the Digboi refinery, which is expected to be completed by 2023. The configuration study will be completed next year, followed by first-stage approval by March 2022.
