Digital Desk: The price of cooking gas has been reduced by the Centre by Rs 200 per cylinder during the Union Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Additional funding for the Ujjwala scheme has been approved by the government. Rs 200 is the extra subsidy. For PMUY beneficiaries, the subsidy will now be 400 per cylinder.

According to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, PM Narendra Modi has agreed to reduce the cost of home LPG cylinders by Rs 200 for all customers. This is a gift from the PM to the nation's women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

75 lakh women will receive free gas connections.

At the cabinet briefing, Thakur announced that the government has decided to offer 75 lakh women free gas connections under the Ujjwala scheme on the occasions of Rakhi and Onam.

These women would receive the gas burner, first cooking gas cylinder, and pipe for free as part of the scheme, Thakur added.
