Guwahati: On Sunday, Assam CM, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma handed over cheques Of ₹2.5 Lakhs To 176 Covid-19 widows who have lost their partners due to Covid 19 pandemic.

This initiative is a part of financial support from the government of Assam towards the widows. The Assam Government has decided to extend this initiative under Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Widows Support Scheme.

The scheme ensures one-time financial aid of Rs. 2.5 lakh has been started to provide social and economic security to each widow who has lost their spouses due to the dangerous virus.

According to government data, as several as 873 recipients have been recognized under this scheme, of which 176 widows have collected the cheques.

Recipients that have been recorded from various regions which have accepted the cheques include Baksa (21), Darrang (7,) Goalpara (11), Kamrup (24), Kamrup Metro (20), Morigaon (24), Nagaon (34), and Nalbari (35).

The rest of the cheques will be distributed by the guardian representatives in their particular assigned regions.
