Digital Desk: The death of a 21-year-old influencer while attempting to shed 100 kg at an extreme weight-loss boot camp in northeastern China has sparked debate about how to govern the influencer sector.

Cuihua, the Instagram influencer, was attempting to drop half of her body weight as an encouragement to her fans.

According to CNN, the death of the influencer has caused state media to warn about the safety dangers associated with weight-loss programs, as well as fresh concerns about the pressures women face to conform to conventional beauty standards.

Cuihua has been filming her weight-loss journey for her tens of thousands of fans on Douyin, China's version of TikTok, in an effort to motivate them in their own battles against obesity, according to state media agencies in the nation.

She recently posted many videos of herself performing intense training routines, revealing that she weighed 156 kilograms and was attempting to reduce 100 kilograms.

According to China National Radio, Cuihua lost more than 27 kilograms in two months by enrolling in numerous weight-loss camps across China.

Cuihua had attended her final camp in Shaanxi province just two days before her death, according to CNR.

While that camp encouraged "nutritious meals, rest, and healthy exercise," they claimed she decided to restrict her nutrition while simultaneously engaging in strenuous activity.

Cuihua training videos and photos have now been taken from the account.

According to state media reports, the influencer's family received "compensation" from a weight loss camp in Shaanxi.

The death of the influencer is being examined by local authorities, who are looking into whether the weight loss camp was performing excessive or improper exercise.
