Digital Desk: The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived in Nalbari today, bringing with him a massive development package worth ₹5,760 crore. As part of his packed schedule, the CM dedicated and laid foundation stones of various major infrastructure and public welfare works to speed up the development of the district.


The highlight of the visit was the formal inauguration of the much-anticipated Borkura Railway Overbridge, constructed at a cost of ₹69 crore. This new newly constructed  flyover which would be called Kumar Bhaskar Barman Flyover is likely to cause huge relief to the traffic at the entrance to Nalbari town. The project was first-planned in the term of the former MLA Ashok Sarma.


Along with this, the Chief Minister also opened a few power substations at Gopal Bazar, Balitara, Chatama and Milan Bazar. . Under the CM’s Rural Road Development Scheme, 37 newly constructed pucca roads covering a total length of 27.94 km were also inaugurated.


Further, a solid wastes treatment industry was commissioned to deal with the urban sanitation. During Nalbari Zila Divas, another flyover was laid foundational at Ghograpar by the CM himself. It has other major projects like: a drinking water supply project, the Urban Forest Project which involves plantation of 30,000 saplings in Nalbari town, a new circuit house, a modern clock tower, Hi-Max smart street lighting and a 30-crore water resources initiative, it was launched in one day, making a total of 20 new projects.


Local MLA and minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, senior ministers Chandra Mohan Patowary and Narayan Deka were  also present along with the Chief Minister.


Addressing the media, Sarma stressed on paying tributes to the historical figures such as Kumar Bhaskar Barman and equating both development and cultural identity should be reciprocated. He was also very vocal when it comes to political matters where he repeated his sentiments concerning nationalism and locally related identity and encouraged individuals to remain mindful of land and property deals made with foreigners.
