The broader goal is to tackle child malnutrition, improve food security, and enhance overall educational outcomes
Digital Desk: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and did the bhumi pujan of a state-of-the-art Centralised Community Kitchen at Dihing khamti playground, Dibrugarh. The program, which will be implemented with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, will focus on making nutritious midday meals available to schoolchildren in the context of the PM POSHAN program, which will be aimed at achieving goals similar to the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Costing at 25 crore Rupees of the central government, the facility is estimated to be the heart of serving healthy and hygienic food of high quality to students of the neighboring schools. The greater objective is to address child malnutrition, food security, and general educational outcomes.
The kitchen complex will contain the Main Kitchen Building (Ground + First Floor), which is 1,718 sq. metres, Administrator and Senior Managers Quarters (760 sq. metres), Staff Training Centre and Multipurpose Hall (698 sq. metres), and a Utility and Security Block (94 sq. metres). The set deadline to complete the project is September 2026.
Besides the main aim, the community kitchen should also be expected to create job opportunities, encourage people to improve their level of skills in food planning and management, and increase food safety and nutrition awareness among people in the community.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister and also Assam Ministers Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Bimal Borah, Prashanta Phukan, and Jogen Mohan, were present at the event. Other MLAs present were; Chakradhar Gogoi, Binod Hazarika, Taranga Gogoi, ASTDC Chairman Rituparna Baruah, Srijanardana Das, President Hare Krishna Movement Guwahati & Head of the Akshaya Patra Foundation in the North East Region.
This initiative marks a significant step that will lead to better child welfare and infrastructural amenities in Assam as far as education is concerned.
