Digital Desk: On Sunday, when Cyclone Mocha made landfall along the shores of Bangladesh and Myanmar, Disaster Management Force soldiers were also deployed in West Bengal. Purba Medinipur and South 24 Parganas districts' coastline areas are on high alert.

According to a PTI report, the Digha-Mandarmani coastal areas are also on high alert, with NDRF units comprising divers on standby.

People are not allowed to go near the sea because of regulations. Over 100 state disaster management group members have also been sent to keep an eye on them at Bakkhali sea beach.

The Sunderbans has embankment breaches that are being closed as a precaution. Furthermore, the police and government have used loud speakers to warn people not to approach the sea.

"Although the weather service has predicted that Cyclone Mocha will pass through West Bengal, we have taken all precautionary measures in case of any change," an official told PTI.

Residents of coastal areas in Purba Medinipur and South 24 Parganas districts have been evacuated as the storm is scheduled to make landfall later on Sunday (May 14).

Cyclone Mocha was crossing the coast on Sunday afternoon, 250 kilometres south of Cox's Bazar. It made landfall in Bangladesh at Coxbazar and on the northwestern coast of Myanmar.
