Congress Working Committee has urged Rahul Gandhi to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha...

Digital Desk: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made a significant decision regarding his parliamentary seats, opting to retain the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency while vacating the Wayanad seat for his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to contest. This move follows Rahul Gandhi's dual victories in both Rae Bareli and Wayanad during the recent Lok Sabha elections, necessitating the surrender of one seat within 14 days of the election results.

Party President Mallikarjun Kharge confirmed the decision, stating, "The party has decided that Rahul Gandhi should retain the Rae Bareli seat since it holds sentimental value for the family." The announcement came after consultations with senior party leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, K C Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Expressing gratitude for accepting the decision, Kharge announced Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's candidacy from the Wayanad constituency, marking her electoral debut in this region.

Reflecting on his tenure as the MP of Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi conveyed deep appreciation for the support and affection received from the people, stating, "The last five years have been a fantastic experience. The people of Wayanad stood by me, giving love and energy during challenging times."

Assuring continued engagement with Wayanad despite relinquishing the seat, Rahul Gandhi emphasized, "I will be a frequent visitor to Wayanad." He affirmed that both Rae Bareli and Wayanad would benefit from having two dedicated MPs.

In addition to these decisions, the Congress Working Committee has urged Rahul Gandhi to assume the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, reflecting the party's strategic planning and leadership alignment in parliament.
