This decision comes in the wake of serious allegations levied by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding Kejriwal's involvement...

Digital Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody was extended by the Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday until July 3. Kejriwal was presenting his petition for regular bail to the court.

This decision comes in the wake of serious allegations levied by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding Kejriwal's involvement in a purported Rs 100 crore kickback demand linked to a now withdrawn liquor policy. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju informed the court that the ED's chargesheet on money laundering allegations had been acknowledged by the court, underscoring the severity of the accusations.

"The court's cognizance of money laundering suggests prima facie acceptance of the case," stated ASG Raju, representing the ED, highlighting the investigative findings predating Kejriwal's arrest.

Kejriwal, appearing via video conference, faced arguments from his legal team countering the allegations. His lawyer Vikram Chaudhary emphasized that Kejriwal had not been named in any PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) chargesheet and questioned the timing and motives behind his arrest just ahead of the elections.

Chaudhary underscored the reliance on witness statements, some of whom were promised leniency, casting doubt on their credibility. He pointed out the Supreme Court's allowance for bail petitions in lower courts and asserted that the case appeared to blur lines between PMLA and CBI allegations. The courtroom drama reflects a high-stakes legal battle as Kejriwal navigates the complexities of political and legal scrutiny amidst the backdrop of upcoming electoral challenges.
