According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, the prime minister 'does not know his history'
Digital Desk: The Congress retaliated on Saturday against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for referring to its Lok Sabha election manifesto as an 'imprint of the Muslim League'.
According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, the prime minister 'does not know his history'. "The prime minister does not know his history as it was, in fact, none other than Mookerjee, the president of the Hindu Mahasabha then, who was himself part of the coalition government in Bengal with the Muslim League," Ramesh was cited as saying by the PTI.
Ramesh reminded, "The Prime Minister says that Congress adopted the policy of the Muslim League, let me remind the Prime Minister, in 1940, 1941 and 42, which person, which Muslim party, was in the coalition government with the Muslim League, in Bengal."
Ramesh further elaborated on historical alliances, stating, "Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was the founder of the Jana Sangh, was the President of the Hindu Mahasabha, and he formed a coalition government with the Muslim League. In Bengal, in Sindh, and in the Northwest Frontier Province, there was an alliance between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League."
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticised the Prime Minister, accusing him of neglecting public issues and attempting to divert attention from pressing matters. Ramesh stated, "The Prime Minister never talks about the public; he wants to divert attention from what the public issues, farmers' issues, youth issues, women's issues, and workers' issues are, which is the reality of the 10 years of injustice."
Highlighting concerns over the government's handling of relations with China, Ramesh asserted, "They gave a clean chit to China, and because of that clean chit, we have become weak today."
Ramesh accused the ruling party of perpetuating divisive politics and accused the Prime Minister of exacerbating social polarization. He asserted, "Today, if we talk about Congress, they always adopt divisive politics, and the Prime Minister is ready to encourage social polarisation on any issue."
