The sealed boxes will be brought to Delhi on Tuesday after the vote is complete, where they will be housed in a secure chamber at the party's headquarters until being opened, he said.

Digital Desk: Senior Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor will face off in an electoral contest on Monday for the post of Congress chief, as the party prepares to nominate a non-Gandhi president for the first time in 22 years.

The party leader will be chosen in a secret vote by more than 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee representatives from the Electoral College. Every five years, members of the organisation choose these delegates.

Voting will take place at the Congress headquarters in Delhi and at over 65 polling booths across the country between 10 am and 4 pm. For the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a unique booth has been built in Karnataka to allow participants, such as former leader Rahul Gandhi, to participate in the election process. Voters for the two candidates, Mr. Kharge and Mr. Tharoor will go to their respective states of Karnataka and Kerala to cast their ballots.

"The delegates from every state will cast their votes at their separate polling places by placing a "x" next to the name of the candidate they choose. Polling has been planned to go well, "Congress' Madhusudan Mistry, chairman of the Central Election Authority, informed the news agency ANI.

The sealed boxes will be brought to Delhi on Tuesday after the vote is complete, where they will be housed in a secure chamber at the party's headquarters until being opened, he said.

Before the Wednesday count began, the ballot papers would be mixed. The winner of more than 50% of the votes will be chosen as the new Congress president.
