Digital Desk: The Congress' top brass, including party head Mallikarjun Kharge and former AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, met on Friday to discuss the party's next steps following Rahul Gandhi's disqualification from the Lok Sabha. A meeting was already planned for Friday evening, but post Rahul Gandhi's conviction, top leaders gathered at 6 p.m. at the party headquarters, with his disqualification at the top of the agenda.

Along with Kharge and Sonia Gandhi, Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K C Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Rajiv Shukla, and Tariq Anwar, as well as senior leaders P Chidambaram, Anand Sharma, Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik, Salman Khurshid, and Pawan Kumar Bansal, were present at the meeting.

According to sources, the gathering focused on Rahul Gandhi's disqualification as well as the party's agitation strategy and plans.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday after being convicted by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case, an action the party described as an effort to "silence" his voice as it promised to fight the battle legally and politically.
