Digital Desk: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting is underway to discuss the party's humiliating defeat in Assembly elections in five states. The meeting is held at the party's office at 24 Akbar Road in the national capital. The meeting is attended by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Digvijaya Singh, P Chidambaram, Harish Rawat, Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, and KC Venugopal.Chhattishgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Shaktisinh Gohil, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Rajiv Shukla, Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik, and Pramod Tewari are among the other top leaders present at the meeting.According to sources, the group within the party, G23, proposed Mukul Wasnik for the post of party president ahead of the meeting, but he has not accepted it.Sources quoted, "G23, which includes Anand Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Kapil Sibal, proposed Mukul Wasnik's name for the position of party president. However, it was not accepted by him."The source, who is a member of the G23, also stated that the new party president should lead the party in the same manner as Sonia Gandhi did in early 2000."Though Sonia Gandhi is the interim president, KC Venugopal, Ajay Maken, and Randeep Surjewala run the show. They are not held accountable in any way. Rahul Gandhi is not the president. However, he operates behind the scenes and makes decisions. He is not open in his communication. We are supporters of the party, not enemies," the source added. The results of the five assembly elections shocked the Congress, which had hoped to do well to resurrect its prospects for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and to fend off the emerging challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Trinamool Congress to replace it as the fulcrum of anti-BJP politics in the country.
