Members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and senior leaders will participate in the "PM House gherao," while Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs will hold a "Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan" from Parliament, according to a statement from the party.

Digital Desk: The Congress mass protests against rising prices, unemployment, and a hike in the GST rate begin today across the country. The party leaders are marching to the Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi. Across the country, the party's state units will stage similar protests.

 

Here are 10 facts about this protest:

1.  Members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and senior leaders will participate in the "PM House gherao," while Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs will hold a "Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan" from Parliament, according to a statement from the party.

 2. In advance of the Congress march, the administration has issued prohibitory orders prohibiting large gatherings in certain areas of Delhi. The Delhi police have denied the Congress permission to hold a protest in the national capital, citing the restrictions.

 3.    Rahul Gandhi stated ahead of the protest, "Democracy is dying before our eyes. What India has built brick by brick for nearly a century is being demolished right in front of your eyes. Anyone who opposes the onset of dictatorship is viciously attacked, jailed, arrested, and beaten up."

 4. The Delhi traffic police have issued an advisory stating that traffic movement in parts of Lutyens' Delhi will be disrupted.

 5.  According to Delhi police, special arrangements have been made, and diversions will be suggested based on expected congestion on major roads.

 6.    Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP, will hold a press conference at 9.30 a.m.

 7.  Congress leaders have gathered at the party's headquarters in Delhi ahead of the march. 

 8.  On Tuesday, top Congress leaders met to discuss the party's strategy for today's nationwide protest.

 9. Congress has repeatedly questioned the price increase and the increase in the Goods and Services Tax (GST). On these issues, Congress MPs have protested both inside and outside Parliament.

 10. The protests come as the Enforcement Directorate is questioning Congress President Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with a case involving the National Herald newspaper.
