INSACOG did not disclose the location of this variant in its last bulletin, which was posted on Tuesday, according to IANS.

Digital Desk: One verified case of the XE variant of Covid-19 has been found in India, according to the Indian SARS-CoV2 Genomics Sequencing Consortium (INSACOG). However,  INSACOG did not disclose the location of this variant in its last bulletin, which was posted on Tuesday, according to IANS.

"In comparison to the previous week, 12 states have seen an increase in covid-19 cases, while 19 states have seen a decrease," according to the bulletin.

Further, it said that potential hybrid sequences are under close examination.

"BA.2.10 and BA.2.12 are new BA.2 sub-lineages that have been identified, and several previous BA.2 sequences have been reclassified into them. So far, there hasn't been any evidence that these sub-lineages are linked to greater illness severity. There have been no reports of XE clusters across India so far," the bulletin said.

The INSACOG also listed one XE variant case in the country in its April 18 bulletin.

The INSACOG reports genomic surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 across the nation through sequencing of samples from Sentinel sites and international travellers arriving in India.

INSACOG has analysed a total of 2,43,957 samples, according to the bulletin. As per the Union Health Ministry, India reported 3,157 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, a decrease from the 3,324 infections reported the day before.
