From March 16, the Covid-19 vaccine will be available for children aged 12 to 14 and boosters for all above the age of 60.

Digital Desk: Covid-19 vaccination for children aged 12 to 14 years will begin from March 16 and the co-morbidity clause for delivering preventive doses to people aged 60 and up has been removed, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday. Reportedly, Corbevax, a Covid-19 vaccine made by Biological Evans in Hyderabad, would be given to children aged 12 to 14. The minister announced the news on Twitter in Hindi, saying, “If the children are safe, the country will be as well. I am pleased to inform you that covid-19 vaccination for children aged 12 to 13 and 13 to 14 will begin on March 16. Additionally, anyone aged 60 and up will be able to receive preventive doses.” The statement of Health Ministry reads, “The Union government has decided to begin covid-19 vaccination for the 12-13 and 13-14 year age groups (those born in 2008, 2009, and 2010, i.e. those who are already over 12 years of age) of the population on March 16, 2022, after due deliberation with scientific bodies.” The nationwide vaccination campaign began on January 16, last year, with healthcare workers (HCWs) receiving vaccinations in the first phase. The vaccination campaign for the Frontline workers (FLWs) started on February 2 last year. The next phase of covid-19 vaccination began on March 1 for persons over the age of 60 and those aged 45 and up who have certain co-morbid disorders. From April 1, 2021, all citizens over the age of 45 will be vaccinated. From May 1, last year, the government decided to broaden its vaccination campaign by allowing anyone above the age of 18 to be vaccinated.  The next phase of Covid-19 vaccination for teenagers aged 15 to 18 years old began on January 3. From January 10 this year, India began administering precaution doses of Covid-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, frontline workers, including personnel deployed for election duty, and those aged 60 and older with co-morbidities, due to an increase in coronavirus infections fueled by the Omicron variant of the virus in the country.
