Digital Desk: With the national capital witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases triggered by the Omicron variant, the Central government has allowed 50 percent of its employees below the level of Under Secretary to work from home.
The order was made by the Personnel Ministry yesterday citing spike in Covid-19 cases across the country.
The order also allows persons with disabilities and pregnant women employees to work from home.

The order further read that the Central government officers/staff have to follow staggered timings in order to avoid overcrowding in the offices.
Officials residing in Covid containment zones have been exempted from attending office till containment zones are de-notified, it said in the order issued by the central ministry.
The order read, “Physical attendance of government servants below the level of Under Secretary shall be restricted to 50 percent of the actual strength and the remaining 50 percent shall work from home.”
The Central government has also let go off the biometric attendance for its employees citing spike in Covid cases. The order shall remain in force until January 31.
Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said that decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of the Covid infection in offices.
Meanwhile, the employees have been allowed to mark their attendance in attendance register maintained manually, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry added. Those following work from home schedule may forward their works online to mark their attendance.
All meetings shall be conducted via video-conferencing unless absolutely personal meetings with visitors, the order further read.
Officials attending their respective offices should strictly comply with Covid-appropriate behaviour viz. frequent washing of hands/sanitization, wearing a mask/face cover, observing social distancing at all times, said the order.

The country has been witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases triggered by the Omicron variant that has spread its branches in nearly all the states of the India.
As per the Union Health Ministry, the country’s Omicron tally now stands at 1,700 of which 639 have recovered and discharged. Maharashtra has topped the Omicron tally with 510 cases followed with Delhi registering 351 cases.
