New Delhi: In a high-level meet chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the minister assessed the internal security situation of the country. Stressing on the threats posed by terrorism, militancy, the minister highlighted the need for coordination among central and state agencies.

The high-level meet saw the attendance of the country’s top officials of central agencies and forces along with police officials of various states via video conference.

“Highlighting the continued threats posed by terrorism and global terror groups, terror financing, narco-terrorism, organized crime-terror nexus, illicit use of cyber space, movement of foreign terrorist fighters, etc. Home Minister stressed upon the need for better coordination and synergy among the central and state security agencies in countering the ever-changing CT and security challenges,” a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.

The high-level meet comes just days after the Ludhiana court blast which the security forces have deduced the incident to have links with Khalistani groups and narco-terror elements operating from Pakistan.

One person died and several others injured after an explosion rocked Ludhiana Court complex on December 223.

The Monday’s high-level meeting was a periodic review organized by the Multi Agency Centre of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), though not a routine one for a home minister to attend it.

The Multi Agency Centre is a nodal agency that compiles and exchanges intelligence data from various agencies and police forces across the country.

The meeting however did not conclude in on any single issue. “No particular case or incident was focus of the meeting. Various issues concerning internal security of the country were discussed,” another official said on the request of anonymity.
