New Delhi: The Serum Institute India manufactured vaccine “Covishield” which has a gap of 84 days for the second dose is being reviewed and the gap may be reduced, according to reports.
According to reports, the center is considering rethinking the gap of the second dose of the vaccine.
The gap for the second dose of Covishield was four to six weeks when the vaccine drive started in January throughout the country. It was later increased from six to eight weeks and in May it was again increased from 12 to 16 weeks.
According to NTAGI panel chief NK Arora the decision was based on the studies that the longer the gap, the more the antibodies which means greater protection from COVID. The gap may be reduced for those who are aged 45 years or older.
Meanwhile, India has administered more than 60 crore vaccines so far throughout the country.
