Digital Desk: In a heartwarming tale of love conquering borders, Javeria Khanum from Pakistan crossed the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar to reunite with her Kolkata-based fiancé, Sameer Khan. The couple, whose love story began five years ago, is now gearing up for their wedding in January.
Their journey started when Sameer, having returned to Kolkata from Germany, saw Javeria's picture on his mother's phone. Love struck him instantly, and he expressed his desire to marry her. Sameer's mother initiated the proposal, reaching out to Javeria's family in Pakistan's Dera Ismail. Despite both families agreeing, the path to their union was fraught with challenges.
Javeria had to apply for a visa to travel to India. Her initial attempts were met with rejection from the Indian High Commission, and the unfolding global pandemic in 2020 added further delays to their love story. Undeterred, Javeria persisted, reapplied, and triumphed as she finally secured the crucial visa.
On Tuesday, Javeria crossed the Attari-Wagah border, where Sameer welcomed her with a bouquet and the vibrant beats of 'dhol.' Expressing her gratitude, Javeria thanked the government of India for granting her a 45-day visa. Speaking to ANI, she said, "Everyone back home was very happy. I was trying to secure a visa for a long time, and finally, it happened."
Sameer, who had sought help from the Indian government multiple times, expressed his happiness and surprise at the surreal reunion. "When intentions are clear, then no such thing as a border can come in between love, and this is an example," he remarked, thanking the Indian government and Mr. Maqbool for their assistance in the visa process.
Reflecting on the challenges they faced, Sameer called for a special visa category for couples intending to marry. "I wish both governments introduce a special visa for couples who want to get married and help them. The security concerns are important, I respect that, but there should be a special category," he added.
Both Javeria and Sameer conveyed their joy and disbelief at finally being together, with Sameer noting that friends from various countries might attend their wedding in Kolkata.
