Digital Desk: The situation in violence-torn Manipur is returning to normal after Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a series of talks with stakeholders and promised a fair investigation as well as the establishment of a peace committee.

The curfew has been eased for 12 hours (between 5 am and 5 pm) in Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur whereas eight hours (between 8 am and 4 pm) relaxation were authorized in Jiribam, seven hours (between 5 am and 12 pm in Thoubal and Kakching; 10 hours (between 5 am and 3 pm) in Churachandpur and Chandel; eight hours (from 6 am to 2 pm) in Tengnoupal; 11 hours (from 6 am to 5 pm) in Kangpokpi and 12 hours (from 6 am to 6 pm) in Pherzawl.

The Manipur police stated that the curfew has been lifted totally in five districts namely Tamenglong, Noney, Senapati, Ukhrul, and Kamjong.

Moreover, in the last two days, a total of 140 weapons, including an SLR 29, a carbine, an AK, an INSAS rifle, an INSAS LMG, a 303 rifle, a 9mm pistol, a 32 pistol, an M16 rifle, a smoke gun and tear gas, a locally made pistol, a stun gun, a customized rifle, a JVP, and a grenade launcher, have been surrendered to the Manipur police.

Earlier on Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah asked Manipur residents not to believe fake news and warned that anyone breaching the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement will face harsh punishment.

He stated that Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey will chair a peace committee comprised of people from civil society. Amit Shah, speaking at a press conference here, announced relief measures for the state's people in the aftermath of racial tension and said that those carrying weapons must surrender to police, warning that failure to do so will result in strict action during combing operations beginning tomorrow.
