The three-member inquiry committee formed by the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs...

Digital Desk: The three-member inquiry committee formed by the Department of Housing and Urban Affairs on the Governor of Assam's orders to investigate the May 25 water pipe burst incident in Guwahati's Kharguli area will hold a public hearing on June 3.

The public hearing will be held at the premises of Joypur Primary School in Guwahati's Kharguli area from 2 p.m. onward.

Therefore, the inquiry committee's chairman, Pabitra Ram Khaund, and the additional district magistrate for the Kamrup Metro district, Ajit Kumar Sarma, urged all concerned individuals to be present and speak before the inquiry committee at the scheduled hearing date.

The committee's three members are as follows:

1. Pabitra Ram Khaund, IAS, Secretary to the Government of Assam, DoHUA (Chairman)

2. Ramendra Sundar Choudhury, Retd. Secretary to the Government of Assam, PHE Department cum Addl. Mission Director (DEM), AMRUT (Member)

3. Sanjai Kr. Mahanta, Retd. Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department cum Addl. Mission Director (Admin), AMRUT (Member)

It should also be noted that the Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) took suo moto cognizance of the incident that occurred in Guwahati's Kharguli last Friday, where a water supply pipeline burst, caused chaos and resulted in the death of a woman. AHRC member Santanu Bharali took note of the situation. He stated that the deputy commissioner of the Kamrup (metro) will be required to submit a report following an investigation into the incident.

Following the water supply pipeline burst tragedy, the situation in Kharguli remains unstable. The families who were stuck in Kharguli's Joypur when a water pipeline burst on May 25 was temporarily accommodated at Joypur Primary School.
